Ciambelle Al Vino Bianco * Italian Wine Cookies * Biscotti Al Vino Bianco Italiano

Ciambelle Al Vino - Italian Wine Cookies, though the literal translation is "Wine Donuts". These are a light and crunchy Italian biscuit style cookie. Lightly sweetened, making them a wonderful breakfast or dessert cookie. As a dessert cookie, they are often served along side a glass of wine or a liquor with a similar flavor, such as Romana Sambuca. They go wonderfully along side a cup of espresso or coffee as well. They can be made with white or red wine, this version is my White Wine Version. And while some people make them in the shape of small donuts, I like to make them shaped like small ropes (roughly 3 inches long by 1 inch wide and 1 inch thick). Traditionally, anise seeds are added to the cookie dough for a wonderful anise flavor. I like them both with and without the seeds - and you may order them either way you prefer as well.

By the way, these cookies are safe to share with the children, there is a small amount of wine which when baked, cooks away the alcohol content, just leaving behind the wonderful flavor of the wine in the cookie. Though perhaps these are a more grown up flavored cookie.

Orders are available in 1 dozen or 2 dozen and with or without anise seeds added. (If you never tried anise seeds before, the flavor is similar to licorice).

Note: these cookies are dairy & egg free, so if you're looking for a treat for special dietary needs, these may be perfect for you!

Ingredients:  flour, sugar, dry Italian White Wine (usually Ruffino Orvieto Classico), salt, baking powder, organic canola oil,  and if requested, organic anise seeds.
