Italian Taralli *Southern Italian Snack Crackers

Taralli is a Southern Italian Snack - it is similar to a cracker or a breadstick. They are traditionally a crunchy snack, but sometimes they can be made a bit softer. When they are softer they have a similar flavor to pretzels. They are shaped in wide circles or ovals, each piece is about 8 inches long before formed into a circle, and each circle is probably 3 - 3 1/2 inches in diameter.

Taralli can also be considered a vegan snack, because there is no animal or dairy products in them. The ingredients for Taralli are flour, water, yeast, white wine (I use Ferrari Carano Fume Blanc or Santa Margherita Pinot Grigio), Olive Oil (Partanna), Salt and a dash of cane sugar to active the yeast.....and of course the flavor options, which are also vegan friendly.

You can order one or two pound bags (two pound bags contain roughly 40 taralli. If you want the taralli to be a little smaller (I can make each one 4 inches with 2 inch diameter circles if you prefer) just send me a note, that will also mean you'll get more in your bag. I bake them to be crunchy, but if you prefer a slightly softer Taralli, send me a note when placing your order.

Crunchy Taralli can be stored up to 2 months, softer Taralli can be stored up to 2 weeks (it can be frozen however in zip lock bags for longer periods of time).

Flavor options include: original (no added flavors), fennel & black pepper, anise, salty(coarse Italian Sea Salt is added into the dough), onion (minced onion), Crushed Red Pepper Flakes with Oregano (this is a spicier option), or Garlic & Parsley - you can also suggest a flavor of your preference.

Ingredients:  flour, semolina flour, extra virgin olive oil (I only use Partanna or Frantoia imported from Sicily), dry white wine (Ruffino Orvieto Classico), organic yeast, sugar, salt & filtered water.
