Rugelach * Kipelach * Kipfel

Rugelach is a cookie made from an unsweetened pastry dough, sweetened only by the filling - which traditionally is cinnamon sugar & chopped nut or a sweetened fruit puree such as raspberry or apricot, more recently I learned that some cultures fill their rugelach with sweetened poppy filling and my more modern version includes a nutella filled rugelach. My personal favorites are the nutella filled and raspberry filled. All these I mentioned are options you may choose from when placing your order.

** You may note that rugelach is similar to kolache and indeed these two cookies are very similar and go hand in hand with one another - the main difference is that rugelach is rolled and given a slight crescent shape and brushed with butter so when it bakes, it is more of a flaky pastry than kolache is. This is another recipe that was handed down generation to generation in my family - and while this particular recipe originates from the Czech Republic, it is also a very popular cookie in Israel.

Traditional Filling is made from finely chopped walnuts, cinnamon and sugar.

If you plan to store cookies for a later use, you can keep them inside the cellophane bags I ship the cookies in, however you MUST place them inside a FREEZER SAFE BAG - and freeze. Do not store in airtight containers without the freezer bag, air could still get inside and ruin the flavor of the cookies.

Ingredients:  dough:  organic cream cheese, organic butter, flour.  Filling ingredients vary and are a mixture of organic & non-organic ingredients.
